A Thought For You

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all  the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember the UK's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words in January 2003, during his address to British ambassadors in London, he said::

"...I sometimes think it is a good rule of thumb to ask of a country: are people trying to get into it or out of it? It's not a bad guide to what sort of country it is."

Only  two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1.  Jesus  Christ
2.  The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your  freedom.

History of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood Part Two
asharq alawsat 2005/12/30
In the second part of the “Jordanian Files on Politics and Fundamentalism”, we review the Muslim Brotherhood’s two branches in the Hashemite Kingdom and consider several recurring questions: are the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan divided into hawks and doves? Who are the hawks and who are the doves? What are the features of this hawkish trend? Who are the prominent, influential and active figures in each branch? What issues to they agree on and on what do they differ? How does the Muslim Brotherhood reflect on the Jordanian and Palestinian-Jordanian identities? How did the organization deal with the concept of political participation in government? Is it true that Hamas is the real instigator for the Jordanian Brotherhood and that its leaders in east Jordan are a mere façade? We shall try to obtain answers to these many questions from the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan. ...

Escalating Violence and Diplomacy in the New Year
FrontPageMag.com 2005/12/30

(2) It rules out violence as an instrument to advance its political interests including the use of international terrorism”. ...Gold’s assessment for the New Year is that Israel has to shift its fundamental policies of diplomacy.  “The assumption that we will have a Palestinian leadership that will fight terrorism and in that way, serve Israel’s security interests is a mistake”.

Another Take on the Word “Armageddon”
Bible Code Digest 2005/12/28 (? publication date) [article about midway down on the linked page]
...
A likely explanation has been overlooked although the clue is in the Zechariah text. Hadad and Rimmon are two gods of ancient Syria, which were not known in Israel at any time. The mourning of Hadad-Rimmon must be in Syria. In Hebrew, Syria is Aram. It becomes Arm– if joined in compound to another word. So the Greek word Armageddon (Rev. 16:16) is a transliteration of Aram + megiddon, and means “the place in Syria of the gathering of troops.”    Zechariah 12:11 mentions a “valley” or “plain.” This might be the northeastern Syrian plain facing the Euphrates River. Prophetically this is where the Eastern troops cross the Euphrates River (Rev. 16:12). This interpretation removes the Armageddon scenario from Israel and puts it in Syria. The mourning of Hadad-Rimmon (Zech. 12:11) could be the mourning for the dead after Armageddon. ...

Sunni Disillusion with Iraqi Election Threatens to Fuel Guerilla War

History of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood Part One
asharq alawsat 2005/12/27
...
What is the reason behind the Shiite dudgeon and resentment with Jordan? What is the background of King Abdullah II's warning against the Shiite crescent? How did the political system of Jordan's monarchy acquire this ability to present a distinguished example of dealing with the Islamists from a position of cooperation and integration in the political life and not from a position of enmity and alienation? The history of the relationship between the Muslim Brotherhood and the Hashemite throne provides an exciting story in the Arab world. Sometimes it is a marriage of convenience, in other times it becomes a political alliance. In all cases, there have been instances where the players did not follow the script. However soon they would return to the original script and drop all footnotes.   Within these contexts, we shall try to cast an overview on this scene, starting with the story of the Brotherhood and the Muslims. Then we shall go over the story of the Jihadi Salafi trend and its spiritual figure head godfather Abu-Muhammad al-Maqdisi and it general Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. We shall then conclude by considering the impact of the Iraqi situation on the Jordanian internal position. ...

Arab nationalism will surely make a comeback in Iraq
Daily Star 2005/12/23
The history of Iraqi politics was and still is a history of struggle between advocates of Arab nationalism and advocates of Iraqi nationalism. ...one can fairly conclude that despite the strong boost and prominence the U.S. occupation gave to Iraqi nationalists, the regional reality and the failure of the American adventure, and of those Iraqis who supported it, in creating a new democratic, stable and flourishing Iraq will play into the hands of the Arab nationalists yet again. In fact, this failure is being successfully exploited by Arab nationalists to prove that the U.S. has no interest whatsoever in creating a new Iraq or solving any of its problems, and that the only way to get out of the enormous problems created by the occupation is with the help of other Arab countries. ...

Leaders of six pro-U.S. Gulf Arab states meet on Sunday to discuss Iran's nuclear ambitions and a U.N.-Syria stand-off, concerned that an escalation of these disputes could rock a region already suffering from instability in Iraq.   "There is concern that Iran's nuclear programme could be weaponised. This too is thought to have been generated by the pre-election understandings forged between the US and certain Sunni leaders.   If these understandings yield the two goals of vaulting Iraq’s Sunni Arab community into mainstream national politics and power-sharing, and driving wedge between guerrilla groups and al Qaeda, Iraq’s general election may be counted a modest success.
