German intelligence sources revealed that the CIA director affirmed
that he would inform the Turkish government several hours ahead of any

History of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood Part Two

In the second part of the
“Jordanian Files on Politics and Fundamentalism”, we review the Muslim
Brotherhood’s two branches in the Hashemite Kingdom and consider
several recurring questions: are the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan
divided into hawks and doves? Who are the hawks and who are the doves?
What are the features of this hawkish trend? Who are the prominent,
influential and active figures in each branch? What issues to they
agree on and on what do they differ? How does the Muslim Brotherhood
reflect on the Jordanian and Palestinian-Jordanian identities? How did
the organization deal with the concept of political participation in
government? Is it true that Hamas is the real instigator for the
Jordanian Brotherhood and that its leaders in east Jordan are a mere
façade? We shall try to obtain answers to these many questions from
the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan. ...

Another Take on the Word “Armageddon”
Bible Code Digest 2005/12/28 (?
publication date) [article about midway down on the linked page]
...A likely explanation has been overlooked
although the clue is in the Zechariah text. Hadad and Rimmon are two
gods of ancient Syria, which were not known in Israel at any time. The
mourning of Hadad-Rimmon must be in Syria. In Hebrew, Syria is Aram.
It becomes Arm– if joined in compound to another word. So the Greek
word Armageddon (Rev. 16:16) is a transliteration of Aram + megiddon,
and means “the place in Syria of the gathering of troops.”
Zechariah 12:11 mentions a “valley” or “plain.” This might be the
northeastern Syrian plain facing the Euphrates River. Prophetically
this is where the Eastern troops cross the Euphrates River (Rev.
16:12). This interpretation removes the Armageddon scenario from
Israel and puts it in Syria. The mourning of Hadad-Rimmon (Zech.
12:11) could be the mourning for the dead after Armageddon. ...

History of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood Part One

...What
is the reason behind the Shiite dudgeon and resentment with Jordan?
What is the background of King Abdullah II's warning against the
Shiite crescent? How did the political system of Jordan's monarchy
acquire this ability to present a distinguished example of dealing
with the Islamists from a position of cooperation and integration in
the political life and not from a position of enmity and alienation?
The history of the relationship between the Muslim Brotherhood and the
Hashemite throne provides an exciting story in the Arab world.
Sometimes it is a marriage of convenience, in other times it becomes a
political alliance. In all cases, there have been instances where the
players did not follow the script. However soon they would return to
the original script and drop all footnotes. Within these
contexts, we shall try to cast an overview on this scene, starting
with the story of the Brotherhood and the Muslims. Then we shall go
over the story of the Jihadi Salafi trend and its spiritual figure
head godfather Abu-Muhammad al-Maqdisi and it general Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
We shall then conclude by considering the impact of the Iraqi
situation on the Jordanian internal position. ...

Iran, Syria stand-off with West focus of Gulf summit
Reuters 2005/12/17
Leaders of six pro-U.S. Gulf Arab states meet on
Sunday to discuss Iran's nuclear ambitions and a U.N.-Syria stand-off,
concerned that an escalation of these disputes could rock a region
already suffering from instability in Iraq. "There is
concern that Iran's nuclear programme could be weaponised. At the end
of the day they (Iranians) are building a nuclear reactor across the
Gulf," one Gulf official said. "There is also concern that
if there is any military action (on Iran), Iran might retaliate and
attack pro-U.S. allies in the Gulf," he said ahead of the two-day
annual meeting held in the United Arab Emirates' capital Abu Dhabi.

Allawi group says fraud in Iraq elections
United Press International 2005/12/17
...Mehdi al-Hafeth of the National Iraqi list
criticized competing blocs, which he did not name, for having
prematurely announced initial victory during last week's parliamentary
elections, "while the truth is contrary to these claims."
In a news conference in Baghdad, he accused a certain "competitor" of
using violence and threats against voters during the polling,
especially in the predominantly Shiite south, which he insisted had
"left negative effects on the entire election process." ...
Shalom praises US House of Rep. for anti-Hamas decision
Jerusalem Post 2005/12/17
..."The
participation of Hamas in the elections can put us back 50 years,"
Shalom told Israel Radio.
"Today is the time to make the difficult decision, the strategic
decision, to dismantle the terror infrastructure, to go to elections
with the intent of afterward going to peace with Israel."
A large majority of 397 members of the House supported the
resolution and only 17 opposed it. Supporters came from both
parties. House Resolution 575, calls on the Palestinian
Authority to set criteria for the participation of Hamas and other
terrorist groups in the elections for the Palestinian parliament and
warns the PA of possible repercussions if it does not make sure Hamas
obeys to these conditions before the elections. ...

In Iran, Arming for Armageddon

Lest you get carried away with today's good news
from Iraq, consider what's happening next door in Iran. The wild
pronouncements of the new Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have
gotten sporadic press ever since he called for Israel to be wiped off
the map. He subsequently amended himself to say that Israel should
simply be extirpated from the Middle East map and moved to some German
or Austrian province. Perhaps near the site of an old extermination
camp? ...

REMARKS BY HIS MAJESTY KING ABDULLAH II AT CHULALONGKORN UNIVERSITY
ThaisNews.com
2005/12/15
...King Abdullah the 2nd addressed that the
religion of Islam condemns aggression against innocents of any country
or belief. He said the Muslims defy terror and reject extremism, and
live in tolerance and peace. Thus, extremists do not represent
Islam or the Muslim community, and the Muslims are commanded to seek
peace at every turn. The Jordanian King stated that
healing will come by recognizing what people hold in common and
building upon the shared commitment to peace and justice. People of
different faiths can then work together and go forward together, to
create peace and prosperity.

Secret US Diplomacy Brings Hoped-for Sunni Turnout
DEBKAfile
2005/12/14
...Wednesday, in certain Sunni-dominated voting
districts, local Sunni tribal militias linked to al Qaeda undertook to
secure the polling stations instead of Iraqi police and soldiers. This
too is thought to have been generated by the pre-election
understandings forged between the US and certain Sunni leaders.
If these understandings yield the two goals of vaulting Iraq’s Sunni
Arab community into mainstream national politics and power-sharing,
and driving wedge between guerrilla groups and al Qaeda, Iraq’s
general election may be counted a modest success.
