National Strategy for Victory in Iraq
GOP.com 2005/11/30
The following document articulates the broad strategy the
President set forth in 2003 and provides an update on our progress as
well as the challenges remaining.
"The United States has no intention of determining the precise form of
Iraq's new government. That choice belongs to the Iraqi people. Yet,
we will ensure that one brutal dictator is not replaced by another.
All Iraqis must have a voice in the new government, and all citizens
must have their rights protected. Rebuilding Iraq will
require a sustained commitment from many nations, including our own:
we will remain in Iraq as long as necessary, and not a day more."
-- President George W. Bush

Fallaci: Warrior in the Cause of Human Freedom
FrontPageMag.com 2005/11/30
...What to do about all this?
Establish dialogue with Muslim leaders? Try to strengthen moderate
Islam? Fallaci was dismissive of both options. Muslims have no
intention of entering into genuine dialogue with non-Muslims,
she said, and “I do not believe in moderate Islam. What moderate
Islam? Is it enough not to cut heads off? Moderate Islam is another
invention of ours.” Adopting Western dress, she said, was
easy; adopting Western values was not. Then Fallaci threw
down the gauntlet to the multicultural, politically correct, and
fearful. “There is not,” she asserted, “good Islam
or bad Islam. There is just Islam. And Islam is the Qur’an. And the
Qur’an is the Mein Kampf of this movement. The Qur’an demands the
annihilation or subjugation of the other, and wants to substitute
totalitarianism for democracy. Read it over, that Mein Kampf.
In whatever version, you will find that all the evil that the sons of
Allah commit against themselves and against others is in it.” As
jarring as such language is to contemporary sensibilities, Fallaci
here made a statement of fact that can be verified or disproved. And
indeed: Islamic terrorists such as Osama bin Laden, Zarqawi, and
others have never hesitated to quote the Qur’an copiously to justify
their actions. It remains for those who identify themselves as
moderate Muslims to convince violent Muslims that they are misusing
the Qur’an – if indeed they are – and should lay down their arms. They
have had no notable success in this so far.
Fallaci’s a voice of rare courage. ...we may hope – for all our sakes
– that many others will be ready to step into the breach and speak the
truth as she did, whatever the cost, as she did. As Oriana Fallaci so
memorably demonstrated in her address on receiving the Annie Taylor
Award, nothing less than our civilization itself is at stake.

Army's 18th Airborne Corps, told Pentagon reporters during a
videoconference from Iraq.

chief: Arab leaders worried Syria could become the next Iraq
Haaretz 2005/11/22
Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who just
returned from the Mideast, said Arab leaders are worried that Syria
could become the next Iraq. ..."They're all concerned and anxious to
see Syria cooperate and to see the issue settled diplomatically and
not lead to a situation that destabilizes possibly Syria and Lebanon,"
Annan said. "They're worried if we are leading to another Iraq
situation."

Jordan's Anti-Terror Rallies
FrontPageMag.com 2005/11/21
In world
history, it is rare to see a monarchy leading a revolution, but
in Jordan, it may be happening now. Since the bloody strikes
by terrorist Abu Mus'aab al Zarqawi against civilian targets in
downtown Amman last week, the world is watching tens of thousands of
Jordanian citizens taking to the streets to protest the plague of
Irhaab (terrorism). ...Surely,
King Abdallah's government is not opposed to these
demonstrations and may even be encouraging these marches.
That's precisely why I am dubbing this street intifada against al-Qaeda
a “Hashemite revolution.”...

The US force, backed by helicopters and tanks, was led to the
location by an intelligence tip. The troops had evacuated the area and
were preparing to storm the building when the terrorists killed
themselves. Some Arab sources report that American unit is now
busy trying to identify the 8 bodies, hoping against hope that
Abu Musab al Zarqawi is among them. This is not confirmed by
US military sources.

Abdullah the realist
The Jerusalem Post
2005/11/20 (updated from 11/19)
...a serious Jordanian alternative or
option is back on the table, after having been hidden for the
last 20 years. But unlike the situation after the 1948 war, when
Jordan occupied the West Bank and east Jerusalem, and until the 1967
war, the current scenarios focus on a Jordanian-Palestinian
federation or confederation. Economically,
Israel might also join this structure, in the form of a
customs union or even common market for goods, and perhaps labor. The
main Jordanian contributions to this relationship would be stability,
security and experience in providing necessary government services.
...In the rapidly changing regional context,
Jordan's influence is likely to rise significantly, as
the Syrian regime becomes weaker, and the future of Iraq remains
uncertain. In the past, Jordan's freedom of movement and the ability
to extend its regional role, including through more cooperative links
with Israel, was hampered by the involvement of Saddam Hussein, on one
side, and Hafez Assad on the other. With both now gone, Jordan
has the opportunity to become a significant regional actor,
terror attacks not withstanding. In this context,
institutionalizing the political relationship between Jordan and the
Palestinian Authority would contribute measurably to regional
stability. ...

UPI 2005/11/20
...The Syrian officials Damascus is trying to protect from
answering any questions are those who represent the heart and soul of
the Baathist regime that has ruled the country for more than four
decades. They may be innocent of some things -- such as pushing the
button that detonated the bomb that killed Hariri and 20 others and
began the unraveling of the whole Syrian presence in Lebanon. But
there is more than just pushing the button. There is the business of
creating the climate to kill and murder, of preparing and arming the
murderers and of giving the marching orders. ...It is appearing
to the whole world like a man running away from the scene of a crime
without explanations as a growing crowd of people run after it,
shouting: ''STOP that man." ...
