A Thought For You

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all  the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember the UK's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words in January 2003, during his address to British ambassadors in London, he said::

"...I sometimes think it is a good rule of thumb to ask of a country: are people trying to get into it or out of it? It's not a bad guide to what sort of country it is."

Only  two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1.  Jesus  Christ
2.  The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your  freedom.

What Iran & Syria Want
Yahoo! News 2006/11/29
...It's clear that both Iran and Syria are trying to co-opt Iraq into their sphere on influence. Of course, the first thing Tehran and Damascus will try to get their new Iraqi friends to do is to pull the plug on the U.S. presence there. From Tehran's and Damascus' perspective, the fewer Americans in the region to check their plans for hegemony, the better.   But they also intend to use promises of peace and stability in Iraq as a bargaining chip in advancing other aspects of their agendas as well.   Iran wants to use Iraq as leverage to get the U.N. to back off pressuring Tehran over its nuclear (weapons) program. Tehran's message to the U.S. and other nuclear busybodies: If you want peace and stability in Iraq, don't push us on our nuclear program.   Syria will also try to leverage peace and stability in Iraq for an end to the U.N.'s investigation into the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Damascus would also like a green light to re-establish its influence in Lebanon, and, perhaps, even try to get the U.S. to pressure Israel to reopen negotiations over the Golan Heights. ...

America, Not Keith Ellison, decides what book a congressman takes his oath on
Townhall.com 2006/11/28
Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the first Muslim elected to the United States Congress, has announced that he will not take his oath of office on the Bible, but on the bible of Islam, the Koran.   He should not be allowed to do so -- not because of any American hostility to the Koran, but because the act undermines American civilization.   First, it is an act of hubris that perfectly exemplifies multiculturalist activism -- my culture trumps America's culture. What Ellison and his Muslim and leftist supporters are saying is that it is of no consequence what America holds as its holiest book; all that matters is what any individual holds to be his holiest book.   Forgive me, but America should not give a hoot what Keith Ellison's favorite book is. ...

Fine little country and all that, but to legitimize them as the kind of necessary middle man, so to speak for us to work things out in Iraq?   We're laying the groundwork for a regional conference. Making the last mistake in Iraq
Jewish World Review 2006/11/22
...if, as it is hard to imagine otherwise, our departure from Iraq yields civil war, chaos, warlordism and terrorist safe havens — it is very likely that Iran will lurch in to harvest their advantages,
Turkey will send in its army to stop an independent Kurdistan, and Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the other Sunni states will be sucked in to fend off Shi'a Iran's hegemony. In that nightmare maelstrom the 20 million barrels a day of oil shipped from the Persian Gulf — and the world economy with it — will be in daily risk of being cut off." ...
Comment: Let me add that Turkey will also head east, aligning itself with Iran.

Al-Muhajir's Evil Presence
The New York Sun 2006/11/20
...in al-Muhajir's message is his belief that what he perceives as America's imminent military retreat from Iraq has brought an end to one of the "phases of jihad." This is an occasion for al-Muhajir to herald a new phase: the establishment of the caliphate. Al-Muhajir pledges allegiance to the hitherto unheard of " Abu Omar al-Baghdadi." The glaring hint that he is indeed Al Qaeda's candidate for the job of caliph is al-Muhajir's insistence on highlighting al-Baghdadi's Hashemite pedigree — a traditional must-have for any would-be caliph. ...

Siniora's nasty little trick
Haaretz 2006/11/20
...Two weeks ago, Siniora played a small but nasty trick on Syria when he received the draft of the United Nations' proposal for the establishment of an international tribunal to try Rafik Hariri's assassins. ...Did Siniora know that the delay in presenting the document would cause the collapse of his government? Apparently, he did. He was well aware that Hezbollah (and Syria) had no intention of conceding on the issue of the creation of a national unity government in which Hezbollah would have a veto, and that is why he played his little trick.   Actually, Siniora was afraid that if he presented the proposal to his rivals, they would try to delay its approval and drag him and the government into lengthy discussions that might have ultimately taken all the punch out of the document, which he himself drafted together with UN representatives. Apparently, Siniora wanted at least to guarantee approval of the cabinet resolution regarding the international tribunal before political developments led to his government's collapse.   Now the dispute is a legal one. ...
