It appears that Israel, in view of the most difficult circumstances surrounding them, have accepted the Hashemite king's dominance over temple mount, and accept him as their 'best political bet', so to speak, from the radicalism that threatens their very existence, and which he appears to be attempting to resist in his own kingdom, as well as throughout the greater middle east and the Islamic world at large.

King Abdullah II, the voice of Islam, and the voice for the Arabs, and alas ...the voice for Iraq too.  I'm sure the democrats who have won the US house could work out a deal whereby the king could get the job of 'managing' Iraq in exchange for allowing US to somehow leave gracefully, perhaps to go off and fight the bad influences of Syria and Iran.  We watch and wait.

In July 2006, Muhammad Abd al-Sattar, a deputy minister in Syria's government, made a very strange statement on that country's state-controlled television. Jihad, he said, is the duty of every Muslim, Arab and Christian in order to kill the Jews.   But wait a minute. Why did Sattar say Muslim, Arab and Christian? After all, jihad is an Islamic religious notion. Why should Christians wage Jihad? And the word Arab here means the non-Muslim, non-Christian Alawites who rule Syria and pretend to be Muslims.   What's happening here is a new ideology, the doctrine of Hamas, Hizbullah, Syria; and the Iraqi insurgents, behind what Syrian President Bashar Assad calls the "resistance" philosophy.   It is the blend of two radical world views: Islamism and Arab nationalism. Call it National Islamism. The last time there was such a synthesis it brought together right-wing nationalism and left-wing populist socialism. Attempts to chart a middle course--partial withdrawal or redeployment, accelerated hand-over to the Iraqis, political deals with Syria or Iran--ignore the realities of the military situation. The real choice we face is this: Is it better to accept defeat than to endure the pain of trying to succeed?   The U.S. military, under the stewardship of CENTCOM Commander General John Abizaid, has worked hard from the outset to avoid creating an Iraqi military that is dependent upon the continued presence of U.S. forces. The fear of such dependency is one of the pillars that has supported U.S. strategy from the outset. In order to avoid it, the U.S. military has never fully committed to conducting coherent and comprehensive counterinsurgency operations on its own, preferring to wait until the Iraqis are able to undertake them. In a speech at Pasadena City College that was “an all star line up of the Democratic Party” - primarily a campaign stop to get students to vote for Phil Angelidies who is running against Governor Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kerry seems to have in one speech focused national attention on the difference between Republicans and Democrats. . He told the students “You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
I’m not sure what that might have to do with getting Angelidies elected, but it probably reminded a few other people besides me of techniques Kerry has used for 35 years to undermine and discredit the men in our armed forces.
Republicans quickly responded to Kerry’s snide remarks about those in the military. At White House Press Conference yesterday a reporter asked Tony Snow about Kerry’s comment. Snow said: “It sort of fits a pattern. You may recall that last year Senator Kerry—on CBS’s “Face the Nation”—accused U.S. soldiers of terrorizing kids and children in Iraq; and recently also described troop concentrations in Baghdad as “having failed miserably.”
Sen. John McCain, often called a friend of John Kerry, said, “The suggestion that only the least educated Americans would agree to serve in the military and fight in Iraq is an insult to every soldier serving in combat today.”
Later in the day, President Bush said: “The senator’s suggestion that the men and women of our military are somehow uneducated is insulting and shameful. The men and women who serve in our all-volunteer armed forces are plenty smart and are serving because they are patriots—and Senator Kerry owes them an apology.” ...
I say Kerry should apologize unequivocally, shut his mouth, go home and stay there.
